History

Wat Buddha Samakidham Temple was founded by a small but devoted group of Lao and Thai Buddhist families who settled in Columbus, Ohio. Seeking to maintain their cultural heritage and spiritual practice far from their homelands, these families gathered in private homes for prayer, meditation, and celebration of traditional Buddhist holidays.

Establishment

As the community grew, so did the need for a permanent place of worship. Through the generous contributions of members and supporters, the temple found its home at 3296 Watkins Rd, Columbus, OH.

Wat Buddha Samakidham Temple was officially established on July 4, 2010. This important milestone marked the beginning of a permanent spiritual home for Lao and Thai Buddhists in central Ohio. Since its establishment, the temple has continued to preserve Buddhist teachings, cultural traditions, and the spirit of unity within the community.

Growth & Community

Over the years, the temple has grown into a vibrant center for Buddhist practice, cultural events, and community support. From Songkran celebrations and Boun Kathin ceremonies to weekly meditation and Dhamma teachings, the temple has served as a spiritual anchor for hundreds of families across Columbus and beyond.

Today

Today, Wat Buddha Samakidham Temple continues to welcome all who seek peace, wisdom, and community. Under the guidance of our resident monks and a dedicated leadership team, the temple remains a place of learning, healing, and togetherness — honoring the past while nurturing the next generation of practitioners.

We are grateful to all who have contributed to the temple’s journey — past, present, and future. May the merit of their generosity and devotion continue to flourish for generations to come.
